Over the years GABR has rescued over 4000 Bassets! Our volunteers have driven thousands
of miles and in some cases have flown to rescue a Basset that may have been abused, is ill , lost a
home due to a death in the family or in some cases the owners could no longer afford to provide
properly for their Basset. What ever the reason, GABR is there to the extent of our financial
resources. We can not rescue all the Bassets that need us for that would be impossible due to the
numbers in need. We set limits on the number we rescue to fit within our financial capabilities and
the number of foster homes we have available to take in dogs. We do this because we plan to be
around for a long time to come.
Our "Illinois Waddle" in September and Auction in April of each year have not only provided funds
for GABR but also allow us to make more people aware of our cause. Again, this is all possible
because of our dedicated volunteers.
GABR is faced each month, week and day with life and death decisions. No matter how much love
we have for the Basset and no matter how badly we want to save every one that comes to us, the
real world forces decisions based on time and money.
We realize not everyone has time to foster, to help set up the auction, to chair a committee for the
Waddle, or volunteer time at all.
