Max
Adoption date: 2007
Adopted by: Julie
Comments: "Max has been the best thing for me. He has his own side of the couch and his very own bed. Max is being spoiled. He is
learning to play, but mainly with toys that have treats in them. Max is very smart and learns things very quickly. He loves to go for a ride
in my car and especially going to the "Doggie Store" and to the Dog Park where he loves to interact with the other dogs.
Max has been the best addition to my home and to my life. He loves to be rubbed all over and especially loves his belly rubbed and
under his chin. It was a great feeling to finally see Max's tail go up and wag when we are going on our at least 4 walks a day. It's great
to see him relax on my lap and when he stretches his head back so I can give him a kiss on his head or nose. I knew it was fate
when I saw Max's picture and people may say he was lucky to be in my home, and I tell them that it was I that was the lucky one. I
think we both won. We both get the love that we deserve. I wouldn't trade Max for anything in the world! I just want to make sure that he
is always happy and healthy.
I Love Max and I can't wait to get home from work just to be with him! I truly believe it was meant to be for him and I to be together and I
Thank You for finding him and I Thank his Foster-Mom, Paula for taking good care of him until I could adopt him. I wish I could have
more of them. They are such a joy to have around!"
Sooner & Luckey
Adoption date: Summer 2007
Adopted by: The Ryan's
Comments: "After losing both our Bassets this year, our house was too quiet. We saw Sooner on the internet and immediately fell in
love. We found out there had been another Basset given up with him but supposedly he was already adopted. We contacted Fran
Gray - she said Luckey was still available but she was in St. Louis. We (myself, daughter Kelly and Sooner) drove to St. Louis to
foster mom Jennifer's house and the two dogs were reunited. What a sight -- they were giving each other kisses and following each
other everywhere. They even slept on top of each other on the way home.
Sooner is the easy going "good old boy" and Luckey is a "work in progress" (she's a bit hyper and timid) but we all feel we did a good
job getting these two back together - our house is complete again!"

Buddy
Adoption date: 2007
Adopted by: Mike & Lisa
Comments: "Hi everyone! I wanted to thank my foster family of taking very good care of me until my forever
family, Mike and Lisa, decided that I was perfect for their home. I have a brother basset, Freddie and two
sister kitties who don't mind if I'm here. They just always remind me that they were here first! I have all
kinds of toys and plenty of room to run. Thank you Miss Marlene. Well, it's time for my nap up on the couch
by the fire! Merry Christmas Everyone!
Love, Buddy"

Comments: "We had some problems with Homer in the beginning. He was having quite a few accidents in the house and stealing
sippy cups from the kids. Well, Homer has gotten alot better with the accidents. We have to make sure we monitor his water intake
and let him out quite often. He is still a sippy cup thief but we are "training" the kids to put them up or in the sink! LOL!!
Homer has made himself right at home and is definitely a great addition to our family. He is lovable and huggable. We have not
had Homer weighed yet, but we are almost sure he has lost some more weight! We love taking him for walks and the neighbors
get a kick out of him. He was actually named our block maskot the weigh-ins!"

Maggie
Adoption date: August 2007
Adopted by: Bob Kral
Comments: "I took Maggie in August. She has kidney disease (nephritis). Maggie has become an instant success in our home. She
is such a love dumpling; my daughter and I are very attached to her. Maggie is a people magnet; very affectionate, she'll literally melt
you with her charm. My daughter's boyfriend's family invited Maggie over for Thanksgiving! Maggie's a good walker, and enjoys
making new people and doggie friends in the DuPage off leash areas.
Maggie has learned new tricks. In addition to sit and lay down, she can now give paw, speak on command (the photo shows her in
action), and BANG! (aka dead dog). Needless to say, she's sharp as a tack.
Her health problems are in check. She has been taking her medicine (via hot dogs), and has been slowly losing weight (now at 67.5
pounds). Her prescription has been changed to better address her ailment. Maggie will be getting an ultrasound in a few weeks, and
has been going to the vet every few months as a preventative. I owe it to her for being such a wonderful companion. Couldn't want a
better friend. So well behaved and well trained - it's as if we had her for years!"

My name is Andy. Earlier this year I survived on the streets as a “wild basset.” Fortunately, I met the good folks of Guardian
my short stay with your family.
A few months ago, I left GABR and moved to Aurora, IL to live with my forever family. They are five humans: two parents, 13-
year old Emma, 10-year old Adam, and 6-year old Owen. I am extremely gentle with my people, and on these cool Fall
evenings, my favorite pastime is to snuggle up on the couch next to anyone who has enough space.
I am also thrilled to have found a new basset brother. He is an older and wiser 3 year-old tricolor named Oliver. It took me
about three minutes to warm up to Oliver, but now we are best buddies. We love to “patrol” the perimeter of our big, fenced
back yard for intruders, barking (quite a lot of barking actually) at the birds and bunnies, and lolling in the sun. We also do a
lot of play fighting. If you didn’t know better, you might be nervous from the energetic dog rolling, jaw clacking, teeth clanging
– but we never ever do anything but play. And while Oliver is too cool to come out and admit it, he and I know he is grateful to
have me as a best friend.
I can not thank you enough, GABR. We (the Gillens and I) are perfect for one another and look forward to many many years of
Basset-hair covered fun!

have been the most wonderful addition we've ever had. They love their
6ft fence and all the deer, bunnies, squirrels, and other wildlife that
steps out in the field, since there is over an acre for them to watch.
We love to listen to them howl at the trains, the animals, and whatever
they are talking about. These two came from the same foster home - so
they were brother and sisters prior to me giving them their forever
home. Since they've gotten there - there has been another friend
staying with us and the springer spaniel keeps Mia & Monroe in shape
with plenty of playful exercise and races around the yard. They think
they are LAP DOGS and Mia has claimed a spot on the couch where her
blanket is - but she has to have the foot stool up so she fits on her
spot. They've added more laughs to our lives this past year! Thanks
GABR for letting us have these two precious treats.

pounds (and muscles) and is a very happy little 2 year-old in his forever home. Aside from daycare, Max
had only an 8-year-old cat to "play" with at home. In October of this year, we decided that if we didn't find
Milo who, after only a few days, has managed fit into our little family perfectly. Max is quite the big brother
teaching Milo the rules and the layout of the house, while also trying to teach him a few bad habits, just to
see if mom and dad will notice. The house is never dull and always full of antics!
These dogs are as much basset hound as a cat, but both have been loved and nursed back to health by
the GABR family regardless. Max and Milo will always be considered "honorary bassets" in their eyes and
in ours.
Thank you,

was hoping that I would get along well with my new brothers and sisters. My big sister Millie and big brother
Mickey are Bassets just like me, and my cat brother and sister are Mulder and Sculley. Mickey, Millie and I are
best friends now (In the picture I am the brown lump on mom and dads bed, Millie is the white lump and
I have a huge fenced yard to run around in and since we live out in the country mom and dad let us bark at all
the neighbor dogs.
The vet says I am now a very healthy 60 pounds and had the nerve to put me on the "diet" dog food just like
Mickey and Millie! Mom and Dad laugh because they say I sit like a human - whatever that means!
