Hi Everyone back at GABR. It’s me Bob. Just want to let you know how much I love my new Mom. I love her so much
that it is important for me to be as close to her as possible and see her every minute of the day. My day starts with a
long walk in the Forest Preserve. Let me tell you how awesome the “smells” are there! I am so happy the whole walk
that mom said my tail is just swirling in circles. The kids at the bus stop like to say “Hi” and pet me... I, of course,
oblige them. When we get back I have breakfast and I try to get at it before my new friend Vels (the cat) starts to lick at
it. Vels and I get along good. We both like to sit on the deck and sunbathe or find a messy bed or couch and sleep on
the blankies. Dad is good and will get down on the floor and play with me. He is good at sharing his lunch too. Mom
knows I don’t like to stay home by myself so she takes me with on the boat, we go on vacation together, we go to
softball games, we go get cheeseburgers and sometimes Culvers ice cream. Mom said that I am the “Cutest Basset
in the Whole Wide World”. She makes good pasta and beef barley soup. We also love to cuddle together
I think it would be good for me to stay with her “forever”!

Peyton
Hi,
My name is Peyton Pierce, yes that’s right I am the 6th Pierce pup. Dad kept sending Mom photos of bassets on the rescue list.
Mom kept saying no as Grace was still a pup. Well Dad sent my photo to Mom and she said no. The next day, Mom emailed
Emmy Grace’s adoption photo and guess who Emmy said she had in her foster home and that she wished I could find a home
as good as the Pierces. That melted Mom and the rest is history. Mom & Dad said 5 was special, 6 are spectacular.
My original people gave me up as they thought I was too hard to train. Well, I have proved everyone wrong. Emmy & Larry
fostered me, Emmy said I had only one accident and she said it was her fault, as she didn’t see my sign. I want to say that as of
today I have not had any accidents in my new home and I have been there since the end of June. I had 5 friends to watch and
learn from so yes it is best to have a pack of bassets as we exercise and train each other.
This is me at the Waddle, I had so much fun just watching the festivities My sister Grace was the princess. I got to ride on the
Team Tonka float. Tonka is the son of Cookie and Jake the original basset rescue dog that the Pierces adopted.
Thanks again to all the special people at GABR for helping bassets all over and I was so happy to see so many find homes at the
waddle. Please remember there are more of my friends that need homes and remember a pack is the best.
Yours truly
Peyton Pierce

Lu LU (aka Lady)
My wife and I adopted Lady which we re-named Lu Lu last winter. She is blind. We knew as soon as we saw her picture she
was for us. Her blindness doesn't hinder her a bit. She might not run marathons ,but she can find her way through the whole
house and yard just fine. Lu Lu gets along with our three cats and other Basset Rumble. Now that the warm weather is here
Lu Lu likes to sit on the front porch with us feeling the breeze and hearing all the sounds. We couldn't ask for a better Basset.
Thank you GABR for what you do to help these dogs.
Jeff and Deanna Siron.
Sadie was added to our 4-legged family on September 20, 2008, at the Basset Waddle in
Dwight, IL. We have two elderly Labradors and really hadn’t thought about adding another dog
to the mix, let alone a Basset. But, are we ever glad we did! Sadie is absolutely adorable and
such a happy dog. We can’t say enough good things about the foster mom and the work she
put into Sadie in order to make her adoptable. We believe Sadie feels she is the Queen of the
house and adapted to our schedule quite quickly. She enjoys patrolling the fenced area of the
yard and going for her daily walks. She heels very well until, of course, her nose dictates a
deviation! We only had her 4 days when she devoured, in short order, 5 crème horns from the
kitchen counter. After a frantic call to the vet, we were assured she would be OK and she was –
WHEW! What a reminder of what a counter surfer can do! Needless to say we are VERY
careful now. We’re sure we will continue to learn with Sadie and she with us, since we haven’t
even had her a month. But without a doubt, we would definitely recommend the Guardian Angel
Basset Rescue to anyone that is looking for a Basset. Many thanks again Teri – you did a
wonderful job with Sadie!

They just love to lie in the sun together, and chase each other around the house in between napping most of the day :-)
In August, Wally took his first big road trip to Connecticut with us to visit our families. He did so great in the car and loved
all of the extra attention from our family and friends. We have started to bring Chase and Wally to a dog park that recently
opened in our area. So far Wally seems to like meeting new people to pet him and rub his belly a little more than playing
with the other dogs hehe. Wally has fit so well into our family, we couldn't be happier with him!
We are very grateful to GABR and Wally's foster family for helping him to blossom into the beautiful dog he is today, and
for allowing us the opportunity to bring him into our family!
Sincerely,
Sandra and Marc

Kenny was adopted by our family on our Wedding Anniversary. What a nice anniversary
gift to ourselves! Kenny has been a gift that has unfolded since day one.
He came to us as a shy dog that was very meek and also very polite.
In the days that followed, he showed the other side of himself. GABR estimates that he is
approxiamtely 1 to 1 1/2 years old. Soon his older playful puppy personality emerged! He
chews up toys, blankets, and any cloth Item he can find without getting caught! Luckily, he
leaves the furniture alone! He loves to run in the house as well as outside. Kenny likes to
grip and play tug of war with his older brother Kevin when he gets home from school.
Kenny makes us laugh everyday with his antics. He loves to roll on the floor with his toys
in his mouth while making happy growling noises. If he thinks its belly rub time, he is right
there to let us know.
Thanks to GABR for caring to do the tremendous job they do. Without GABR we would not
have found Kenny and would never have known we could make a difference in at least one
dogs life. Many thanks to all the other adoptive families too for finding GABR.
Sincerely,
John and Barb Windberg and family

Mugsy came to his forever home on January 17th of this year. We had heard about the troubled life this 3 year old
had been through and then saw photos that proved it. It broke our hearts. It is hard to believe or imagine what our
poor boy went through. We can't really express the happiness and joy that Mugsy has brought. He has fit into our
family and home almost perfectly. After losing our basset to cancer last year, we were devestated. We didn't know if
we could open our hearts again but are so very glad we did. He is full of energy and loves to play. The nipping is
being worked on. He is the most loving Basset, a real kisser and lap dog.
For those of you who know the story of Mugsy, please be assured of the home he has been placed in. Mugsy has a
lot of love shown him everyday. We have an extremely large fenced in backyard where he can go out and sniff for
rabbits and squirrels. He has filled out to 50 lbs. and the vet says he looked perfect. In fact last time we took him in
for a weight check all the vets and techs just went crazy for Mugsy, saying what a beautiful dog he was.
Thanks to Edy and Fran for allowing Mugsy to enter our lives. We couldn't be happier. We are also very grateful to
Guardian Angel and for all the wonderful work they do.
Sincerely,
The Hill Family
We brought Truman, now known as Miko, into our family on Dec 7, 2008. He came
to us under weight, only about 25lbs, he as since gain alot of weight, now over
45lbs. He was scared to come down the stairs but not afraid to go up... you see
spent on OTC treats, but we had to give them all away... He loves to play with his
other dogs. He walks daily...this is demanded it doesn't matter, Rain, snow, cold or
windy..... He thinks he's a lap dog.. a huge lap dog.... anyway, I cant think of a
better match for us and he was well worth the wait... now if only he had a friend....
maybe some day...

He is a wonderfully loving, patient, laid-back, companion who has taken on the role of Big
Brudder for 8 month old Hollyberry with not so much as a growl....well, maybe 1 or 2 when she
needs them. He loves the fenced in back yard, has demolished the Lilly bed, is a toy hog, will
not play "fetch" but will watch Holly play, won't share Holly's raw carrots but comes running to
the rattle of the treat sack.... and is patient with the 3 cats.
I have yet to make a trip to the bathroom without him. When I get home from work in the
afternoon he barks loudly and runs in circles around me, like "how dare you be gone for so
long?"...even though he has been home with DadPerson and Holly all day....makes me feel
special.
It took him about 2 hours to claim the bed and he has developed a nighttime routine of
sleeping with us(MomPerson, DadPerson and Hollyberry) for a couple of hours and then he
gets down and spends the rest of the night in his crate. He snores. He likes to go back to bed
in the morning after a quick trip outside....he has yet to have a house accident.
We found that although he likes to ride in the car, it took a few trips for him to be convinced
that he was coming home with us and we were not taking him to be left again. One of the
VetPerson techs thinks it is great that we "got Holly a dog". So do we...thanks to all of you
who had a part in saving Noah! We are blessed to have added him to our family and look
forward to his companionship for years to come. Look for his picture in Ginny Tata-Phillips
new poetry book about rescues.
