Bassets in their "forever" homes!

Bella
Adoption date: 9-11-07
Adopted by: The Pratte Family
Comments: "Hi - my name is Bella, as you already know. I was adopted by my forever family on September 11, 2007. I
have so enjoyed my big back yard to chase rabbits and squirrels. Daddy gives me belly rubs on a daily basis (I am very
loved) and mommy and I enjoy our daily walks together. It is so nice to finally find a loving place to call home. Did I
mention that I am very loved? (or spoiled). I have plenty of soft toys to chew on and I do love my chewies that mommy
and daddy give me to play with.
I do have a new brother named Boxer - he’s a cat. I chase him around the house and try to get him to play with me but I
guess he just wants to be left alone. I have made a new friend named Lilly (she is a basset, too). When I go over there,
Lilly and I play all day long. She is my best friend.
I want to thank my foster family Matt and Jodi for caring for me and giving me a good place to live while I waited for my
forever family (hi Maggie). And thank you to Dennis for helping with my forever mommy and daddy to get them to me.
And a great big thank you to Guardian Angel Basset Rescue for helping me out when I needed it and giving me a
second chance for happiness!!!"

Comments: "Hey Cody here. I'm just chillin' in my new forever home! I'm having a blast. On my first day, my new owners took me
to this place called "Petco" and bought me all this cool new stuff and I have a huge yard to play in. I am also trained with electric
fences so I'll never get lost. And I have access to this huge deck young girls, this really nice man, and this funny lady who talks to
me in a weird voice. I get to lounge around the house relaxing and having fun, but I do go for frequent walks, and when I say
walks I mean runs. Whew, they tire me out! What I do a lot at home is play with the bird, the bird can be mean, but I still like to
play. We make fake lunges at each other and then run away (I do most of the running!). And I just got a brand new buddy. His
name is Itchy and my family is fostering him, so keep a look out for his profile (he might mention me). Okay, I'll see you later, it's
time for my belly rub. Cody, out."
Herman
Adoption date: 07-07
Adopted by:
Comments: "We adopted Herman at the end of July. He’s settled in well and, thanks to his more-than-healthy appetite,
is now up to his ideal weight. Herman instantly made friends with the other dogs and the cats, and showed nothing
more than a benign curiosity towards the parrots (these guys speak English?) It turned out that he wasn’t quite as laid
back and happy with people as we initially had thought, but we’ve done a lot of reading on positive reinforcement (Pat
Miller and other authors), and we’ve all made great progress. (Herman correctly notes that humans, as well as Bassets,
often need some training.) Herman romps with our other Basset, and slobbers on the Cavalier (who won’t play with
him). We love Herman, and are grateful to Robin L., who suggested we consider this boy, and to Amy and Robert, for
fostering him. Thank you GABR!!!"

Adoption date: May 2007 Lucy
Adopted by: Jeff Clayton
Comments: "Lucy came into my home after the loss of Chauncey, my beloved Basset of 11 years. When Lucy was
adopted, she was finishing her heartworm treatment and was a skinny 35 pounds, but now she is healthy, happy and has
gained 4 pounds. Lucy was very shy at first, would not play with toys, hardly barked or interacted with other dogs. Over the
past several months she has developed a wonderful personality. Lucy knows the routine better than I, and is happy to
remind me that it is time for her walk or a biscuit. She loves to play with soft squeaky toys and has started to play tag with
her new friend Mickey. I am very thankful for the people at GABR in finding Lucy for me as we could not be a better match."
up to vigorously kiss my chin, I knew it was a done deal and we'd both found a match. I had recently lost my 13 and 11 year
found GABR, filled out an application, and hoped for the best. Robin Lohmeier contacted me about the application, listened
carefully, and immediately suggested I meet Gertie. Any doubts that I had that I could find a dog quickly were swept away
the day I met her. I had taken one of my granddaughters along for the visit, to see how Gertie was with children. I needn't
have worried. She is friendly, mischievious and patient with the children and loves both visiting them and their lab and
having visits from them at home. Eager to please, loving and craving attention, Gertie is my constant
shadow around the house, a good traveler in the car, and loves her walks. She adapted to her new environment
immediately with no accidents or acting out. She has free reign of the house when I am working, and that has never been a
problem. As you can see from her picture, she takes on a very serious pose when she gets her picture taken. Although
she was overweight at nearly 72 pounds when she came, with daily walks and the help of green beans with her food, she
has lost 9 pounds in three months, and has much more energy and stamina. While she loves to chase the ball and play
"keep away", she is equally happy to share the couch, snuggled close so she won't sleep through or miss anything that
might go on. Thanks to GABR for providing wonderful foster homes and volunteers to help needy bassets and hopeful
basset lovers find each other!

Eli
Adoption date: August 2007
Adopted by: Philip, Bronwyn & William
Comments: "Eli has been here with us since August and he is a wonderful dog!!! We can't thank Tony and Sue
enough for introducing us and doing such a loving job to prepare him for his "forever" family. The first time Eli and
William played together, William said they would be "friends for life" and now we're sure of it.
Eli has had a lot to get used to in his new home. He and our cats have come to an "arrangement" pretty quickly -
Eli only chases them occasionally and they only try and ambush him from the top of the couch occasionally. He
gets to run around in our fenced back yard and tries very hard to keep the squirrels out of the bird feeder! The high
point of most days is when mom comes home and lets him out of his crate and we walk to school. All the kids
love him and want to pet him - Eli just loves the attention and is so calm and gentle. He even won grandma over
on his first week here and got an invite to Thanksgiving dinner! We all have a lot to be thankful for!
Thank you so much for bringing this basset into our lives! Next year, maybe Eli can get a basset brother or sister."

Owners: Herb and Karen Matthias Gomer
Hi Everyone! Gomer here! Just had to tell you how much fun I'm having
with my new family. Thanks to all the good training I got from my
foster home, I have really impressed them with my manners! I still get
love to chew everything in sight, but I'm working on that! I finally
my next door neighbor, Derby and my good friend Kristie! I love going
for walks with Dad every morning and walks with Mom every afternoon - so
I'm keeping really nice and fit. Can't wait until we leave for Florida
for the winter so I can explore my "Southern" home. I'm pretty curious
- about everything! Thanks again to Guardian Angel for finding me such a
fun family to live with. They tell me I'm keeping them young - at
heart! Love to you all, Gomer
Bella to our home. She had her first Christmas with us, and I think
she liked it!! Bella has been a wonderful dog and we love her lots!!
Thanks again,
